Frequently asked Questions

Shipping & Delivery

 Each hat will be delivered in its own hat box, which protects it during transit but also provides a safe means of storage. 


For delivery within the UK we charge £10 & we aim to provide a 2 - 3 working day service for in stock ready to wear millinery pieces.  Extra time will need to be allowed if changes to trim, colour variations or bespoke adjustments are requested as these are made to order.


All items are sent via a trackable service for which a signature will be required at the delivery address.  

  

We are happy to deliver worldwide, however for deliveries outside of the UK we quote based on destination & the courier selected.  Please contact us for further details.

How do I wear & put my hat on?

 The traditional way to wear a hat is on the right side of your head.  Hatonista hats are mostly designed to be worn on the right, exceptions to this will be specified or if you have requested otherwise.  


The majority of our hats are fitted with a clear elastic which can be easily hidden in your hair.  We prefer elastic as it keeps a hat secure & is very comfortable to wear.


The position of the label in your hat can help to guide you. When the hat is tipped upside down in front of you the label should be readable, the text will be the right way up to read.


To put the hat on hold the elastic in your right hand and place the palm of your left under the elastic covering the label, ease the elastic over your head toward the nape of your neck and let the hat sit on the right of your forehead, adjusting it to be comfortable. Arrange your hair to help conceal the elastic.


Helpful hint, freshly washed hair can be a pain for your stylist to put in an updo or to add volume & curls, it can be a pain for your hat too as your silky tresses can contribute to slippage, dry shampoo can be a girls (& a hats) best friend, your stylist will love you too!

Care of your Hat

Please always handle your hat with care. It's been especially hand made just for you after all.


Trimmings such as feathers can be delicate & a hat should never be picked up by its trimmings irrespective of what they're made off.  The brim is normally the strongest part, two hands are always better than one for handling a large hat so you don't apply stress to a single point.


Always be sure to keep your hat in its hat box when it is not being worn. Storage in a cool dry environment is best, damp is not a friend to natural materials such as straws. 


When travelling be sure to take your hat as hand luggage particularly when flying.


If your hat gets wet, simply allow it to dry naturally. never attempt to force dry your hat using artificial heat, hair dryers, radiators, or in direct sunlight as this will damage and fade your hat

When attending an apppointment it is always useful to bring any proposed outfits with you or material swatches.  Also if you have any visual prompts of styles you like or ideas you may like to incorporate into any bespoke design please bring them with you.


Please note due to rellocation & rennovation works appointments are not currently available, unfortunately this disruption is expected to last until May 2018.  During this time we are offering telephone & email consulations.  We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Bespoke Hats & Headpieces

A bespoke hat or headpiece can be ordered by sending us an enquiry via the Contact Us page.   


In an ideal world its great to meet our bespoke clients face to face so we can work together to understand requirements & the look they wish to achieve.  The best way to see what hat designs work for you & your outfit is to ultimately to try them on after all.


However we are more than happy to correspond via a telephone consultations & by email.  


Having an image of your outfit, fabric samples and idea references are always extremely helpful with the design process.  Fabric samples are necessary if a custom dye is required in order to achieve a colour match.


Please be aware you need to allow 4 weeks for a bespoke piece to be made. When considering this option please also be aware that for events like Royal Ascot our studio time gets booked up well in advance.

Once your bespoke design has been agreed, a 50% deposit will be required, this is a non-refundable deposit that will secure your studio time and the time needed to create your piece. This will be deducted from the final price prior to collection/delivery. 


As the design agreed is based upon your requirements at the time of placing the order. Should you wish to alter or embellish the design after that point, the price will increase accordingly and you will be advised along the way of any additional charges. Any specific materials required should be discussed at the initial consultation.

Refunds

Ready-to-wear Millinery – Goods stocked as listed on the website.


Refunds will only be issued if the goods are returned to us in an unworn, as sold condition with tags attached. 


Please notify us & ensure the items are returned to us within 14 days after delivery. The goods need to be returned at your own cost, via an insured service as they remain your responsibility until received by us.

 

Ready-to-wear Millinery - Custom Orders


Hats, fascinators & headpiece designs that feature in our Ready To Wear Collections but they have been made to a clients’ specification, for example any change of colour from the standard, trim alteration or size variation makes a piece a custom order.


Refunds - As these pieces are specifically made to order returns will not be accepted & no refunds will be issued.


If you are at all unsure of your colour choice please ask for a sample swatch of felt, sinamay, fabric etc to be sent to you before you place your order.  We are more than happy to supply this for you.


Bespoke Millinery


Due to the nature of bespoke millinery a great deal of time can be invested into creating an ultimate hat or fascinator based on a brief as defined by a client. We therefore require, once your bespoke design has been agreed, a 50% non refundable deposit. This non-refundable deposit secures the studio time needed to create your piece & the materials. This will be deducted from the final price prior to collection/delivery.

 

Before despatch any outstanding balances will need to be cleared. 


Should you wish to cancel you order at this point, as stated before, the 50% deposit already paid will not be returned.


Refunds - As these pieces are specifically made to order returns will not be accepted & no refunds will be issued.
